Gloves selection
With the SHIELD Scientific product brand code, select the right gloves is now an easy exercise.
Nitrile gloves with a long 290mm cuff provide extended wrist and forearm protection compared to standard disposable gloves. The dual registered duoSHIELD™ PFT Nitrile 290 laboratory glove helps reduce exposure to chemical splashes and contaminants while maintaining excellent dexterity for routine laboratory tasks.
Group 3 biological agents can cause severe disease and represent a serious risk to workers, even when prophylaxis or treatment is available. Protective measures such as nitrile gloves are required to minimise exposure to infectious materials and reduce the risk of transmission during laboratory handling.
Chemical and biological protection is covered by the EN ISO 374 standards series: EN ISO 374‑1 for hazardous chemicals and EN ISO 374‑5 for microorganisms, including bacteria, fungi and viruses. For medical use, EN 455 (Parts 1–4) also applies to ensure barrier integrity.
Using dual registered gloves avoids switching between PPE and medical devices according to the risks (worker protection vs. patient protection). Long cuff designs provide extended wrist protection, while ensuring protection for both the user and the patient, simplifying glove selection and supporting compliance in laboratory and healthcare environments.
A 290mm cuff extends protection beyond the wrist, helping prevent exposure during reach, handling or splash‑prone tasks. It helps maintain coverage during routine movements, especially when arms are lifted, rotated or repositioned during laboratory work.
