Dual-layer gloves technology
Dual-layer gloves technology: a breakthrough in AQL Level and comfort
In 2013, SHIELD Scientific took a significant step forward in glove innovation by developing twinSHIELD™ technology, introducing the first twin-tone, dual-layer single-use nitrile gloves.
These nitrile gloves feature a soft inner layer for enhanced comfort and a coloured outer layer to help users easily distinguish between gloves based on the risk they are designed to protect against. This innovation marked a new era in hand protection, setting a benchmark for quality and safety in the industry.
Then in 2019, we pushed the boundaries further, becoming the first to offer gloves with an AQL (Acceptable Quality Level) of 0.25—the lowest available on the market for nitrile gloves. This represents a significant leap forward in terms of quality assurance and barrier integrity.

Wether you're working in a laboratory or in a cleanroom, SHIELD Scientific’s SHIELDskin CHEM™, SHIELDskin™, and ecoSHIELD™ Eco Nitrile PF 250 single-use gloves provide some of the highest-performing protection on the market—achieved through the lowest AQL currently available.a cleanroom, Whether you're working in a laboratory or cleanroom environment,
By combining twinSHIELD™ technology with rigorous testing and high manufacturing standards, these gloves are specifically designed to meet the demands of high-risk applications where both user safety and process integrity are critical.

twinSHIELD™ gloves technology: Optimising barrier protection
To reinforce the primary function of disposable gloves—protection—SHIELD Scientific developed the proprietary twinSHIELD™ technology over a decade ago.
This innovation is based on a double-dipping process, in which the glove mould is immersed twice in compound baths during production. The result is a dual-layer glove that provides exceptional barrier performance.
Thanks to this process, our gloves achieve now an AQL of 0.25—a benchmark in the disposable glove industry. But what does this figure mean in practical terms?
AQL is calculated based on a sample taken from a production batch, typically ranging between 150,000 and 500,000 gloves. For an AQL of 0.25, a maximum of 2 defective gloves is acceptable in a sample of 315. In comparison, a glove with an AQL of 1.5 could contain up to 10 defective gloves in the same sample size. The lower the AQL, the lower the probability of defects such as pinholes—reducing the risk of contamination and exposure in high-risk environments.
As easy as a traffic-light: red, orange, green gloves for safer choices
At SHIELD Scientific, we believe that protection in the laboratory should be smart. That’s why we’ve taken twinSHIELD™ technology one step further by integrating in our unique 'traffic light' colour coding system:
- Outer layer: available in red (SHIELDskin CHEM™ nitrile gloves), orange (SHIELDskin™ nitrile gloves), or green (ecoSHIELD™ Eco Nitrile PF 250 gloves). The outer layer colour enables easy visual glove selection of gloves by risk level and application.
- Inner layer: The inner layer features a clean, soft white surface, providing enhanced comfort and facilitating the donning of the glove.
Thanks to our very popular traffic-light system in the laboratory market, lab users can quickly and confidently choose the right glove for their tasks—minimising the risk of error and optimising safety.
Leading the way in disposable glove innovation
At SHIELD Scientific, we are committed to setting new standards in hand protection. Through continuous innovation and a clear focus on quality, we have established twinSHIELD™ technology as a benchmark in the industry of disposable gloves.
