NEW! GLOVE REGULATION, STANDARDS AND PACKAGING!

WHICH ROAD TO TAKE FOR OUR LABORATORY AND CLEANROOM GLOVES

Whilst some manufacturers may have chosen the shortened route of featuring the new standards for chemical and biological but continuing to comply with the rules outlined in the Personal Protective Equipment Directive 89/686/EEC, the SHIELD Scientific team preferred to take the longer route that better meets the requirements of its customers. In this context, we have moved straight to adopting the Personal Protective Equipment Regulation (EU) 2016/425, along with the suite of new applicable standards relating to hazardous chemicals and harmful biological agents.

This choice can have its drawbacks. First, we had to wait for the new Personal Protective Equipment Regulation (PPER) to come into force in April 2018, then Technical Files could be submitted to the Notified Body to conduct an EU Type examination. Before and after this date, we have undertaken testing of all our gloves against the new standards relating to chemical permeation and degradation, plus viral penetration etc. In parallel a complete update of all packaging was required, incorporating new user instructions and pictograms. Similarly, revisions needed to be made to product data sheets and declarations of conformity.

We are now arriving at the end of this journey and will be able to offer you disposable gloves that fully meet the new European regulation! Product that is PPER compliant is expected imminently. Your SHIELDskin CHEM ™, SHIELDskin ™, ecoSHIELD ™ and duoSHIELD ™ lab nitrile gloves or latex gloves, as well as your SHIELDskin XTREME ™ clean room gloves, will be available from your SHIELD Scientific distributor from the second part of 2019.
